Inhabits lowland rainforests and mountains and pine and oak forests. In its natural state, its diet is based on seeds and fruits. It is a bird with a length of 70 to 80 cm, with an approximate weight of 1.98 to 2.2 Lb. Its legs are dark gray and the iris is pale yellow, the underside of the wings is yellow. The color that stands out the most is green, with a red forehead and blue upper covers, the tail has red and blue feathers.

The male has a blue-black breast, red face, white back bordered on the inside with pinkish feathers, black wings with light blue terminations. The head has a tuft of white feathers and the tail is made up of black and white feathers. The male tends to be larger than the female at approximately 78 cm in length. The female is brown streaked with brown tones. They inhabit mixed bamboo forests between 200 to 300 m. In its natural state, its diet is based on leaves, insects, seeds, worms, among others.
