Weighs between 396 and 495 Lb. They are solitary animals, they have nocturnal and twilight habits. Its fur has an orange background with black vertical stripes. It feeds on medium and large prey, mainly hoofed mammals and occasionally consume small prey such as rabbits and porcupines.

Extinct in the wild. Reintroduction plans in Tunisia, Morocco, Senegal and Chad. He lived in sub-desert regions of the Sahel, south and north of the Sahara (Africa). Present in captive conditions.

SOME OF ITS CHARACTERISTICS

It belongs to the "Orix" group, which refers to the group of antelopes with the appearance of a horse with long, ringed horns, this species being the only one of the group that has curved horns. Its common name, "scimitar", starts from the fact that its horns are arranged curved back in the form of a scimitar. This antelope has an approximate weight of 396 to 440 lb, has white fur with reddish coloration between the front legs and neck, lacking a facial mask. It inhabits desert or arid areas, being its diet strictly herbivorous, it can consume seeds and fruits that it finds available.
