Their diet is based on a variety of herbaceous plants (pastures near water sources). They have an elongated body and neck but short legs. Their hair is coarse and long, forming small manes on the neck. They present grayish and / or brown colorations, the lower part of the legs is black and they present a white ring on the back of their hindquarters. Only the males have a pair of heavy and very ringed horns, which can measure up to a meter in length. Body length varies from 1.8 to 2 m and weight from 374 to 462 Lb.

It has a relatively slender body, with long, thin legs. Its tail is small and its ears are elongated and pointed.
